Gay Pride Maspalomas 2007 is over. We celebrated from

May 7th till May 13th

Gay Pride Maspalomas 2007, has been what has to be called the biggest and best Gay Pride Maspalomas ever. According to official numbers we had 74.000 people  alone joining the street parade on Saturday. The action packed week started off on wednesday with our Pride opening party in one of the gay complexes in Maspalomas including the first ever election of Mr. Gay Gran Canaria, several live performances as well as a fashion show. The weather was beautiful and the complex was filled to the brim. The same night we celebrated our official Gay Pride opening ball in Disco Heaven. Here we saw a great live performance of Ikenna Beney as Whitney Houston Impersonator.

Thursday night was the first night on stage in the square of the Yumbo. A charity night towards Amigos Contra El Sida, our local AIDS and HIV charity. The whole event was brought on to remember all our friends, that have lost the fight but in the same time to make clear, all of us, we still have to do a lot to make AIDS and HIV history. The evening was very emotional but very imressive. All artists appeared with no charge. There were live vocalists from the island or that lived here before, like Scott, known as Drag with no name, Michael Gregory, known as Missee, Michael Cherie from Baerenhoehle, James Rees from the Vallies and a brillant Gospel Choir from Las Palmas. Hannah Jones emotionally finished the show in her very own dramatic way and was leading all the hundreds of people with their candles into the garden of rememberance. Thursday night should and will be part of the official program every year.

Friday nights show was called the Gay Icons Show. The show brought local as well as international artists with impressive acts onto the stage. There was great drag performances as well as fabulous vocalists. All the artists have been sponsored by local businesses. Pub Nestor sponsored Drag with no Name on stage and it was just amazing.

Saturday, as usual, was the great day. A parade, bigger and better than ever went through the streets of Playa del Ingles, starting from the RIU Palace down to the Yumbo, once around the Yumbo into the Av. de EEUU to go over into a massive dance party on the street just above XL disco. At 9pm the big show started and it was great. A big opening and then a party on stage with loads of acts, that just made a fire work before the fire work. Kelly Lorena, Soraya, Hannah Jones, Bucks Fizz, Marc Almond, BNK, the Jacob Sisters, Venga Boys and loads others finished off a week full of emotions, party and events, which made Gay Pride Maspalomas a must for every Gay man or woman. The end of the show was a the biggest fire work display Gran Canaria has ever seen, to see from every part of Maspalomas and Playa del Ingles.

Sunday night saw the official closing event held in the Black and Red Casino in Meloneras with a fabulous dinner show. Some of the artists that appeared on the main stage in the Yumbo joined this spectacular event.

All in all we can proudly say that we could not of hoped for a better pride.

We have already started planning Gay Pride for 2008, and we do promise to make it an even bigger event than this 2007.
